Someone is listening to your words:

Most of us tend to speak what we are thinking or feeling at the moment. We don’t stop to consider who else might be listening, other than the person we are speaking too. I’m very cautious with which words come out of my mouth. In the past, I would freely speak what I felt or was thinking at the moment.

The enemy (devil) listens. He listens carefully and acknowledges every word spoken.  When our words tell what we feel or think, we just gave ammunition to the enemy to use against us. Our words hold guidance, they hold the power to be used against us by the one who is out to steal, kill, and destroy. (John 10:10)  The “Father of lies” himself,  the manipulator, accuser, thief, murderer, tempter, and ruler of the darkness finds great pleasure in taking our words and attacking us by the very things we spoke. Some of us have questioned why we were falsely accused by someone who claimed to love us or manipulated into conforming into what someone else wished for us to do or partake of. When we freely speak and begin our sentence with, “I just feel”,  or “I’m hurt when you”,  is the second the devil uses the person you are speaking with to inflict emotional pain somehow into the conversation. We tend to hold hurt feelings against the person we were speaking with but they were just the avenue the devil used to get to us.  Most of the time the person we are hurt by has no idea the devil simply used them as a conduit to send a message straight to our heart. The message is sent to the area we do the most investing. Our heart is invested in those we love. Normally we get hurt by those we love the most,  which is our spouse, children, siblings, friends or family members. We figure if it looked like them, sounds like them, or felt like them it must be them. Not everything is as it appears to be.

Scripture lets us know that the enemy waits and looks for opportunities to attack. (1Peter 5:8)

John 8:44 reminds us he is a murderer and the father of lies.

John 10:10 reminds us he is out to steal, kill and destroy. (We often forget he has had a long time to study us, and that he has figured out our weaknesses by listening to the words we speak.)

Ephesians 6:12 is our reminder that we aren’t wrestling against flesh and blood but rather against principalities and spiritual wickedness in high places. (The enemy’s strategy is to work from the unseen realm in order to better catch us off guard. It is hard to fight off an attack especially when we never saw it coming.)

2 Corinthians 10:4-5 is our wonderful reminder to bring every thought we hold into captivity for a time in order to be obedient in our thoughts towards Christ. ( This scripture is key to knowing that if we don’t hold our thoughts captive, then we are in danger of being held captive by our thoughts.)

My encouragement to you is to search the scriptures, be prepared for the battles that lie in wait for you and be cautious with the words you speak out loud. Knowing the strategies used against, allow for you to fight more effectively. The mistake we all keep making is being angry or hurt by the source in front of us,  instead of the true source of our upset. It is the devil you are warring against, not the people around you…
