Fearless Lesson 1 :

Do you  wake with the same fears you went to bed with? Are you weighed down in mind and body? If so, you are not alone as I am seeing the number climb;  of people being held down or held back by worry, fear, stress, fatigue and lack of peace.

2 Timothy 1:7 ” For God hath not given us the  spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

Wait a minute…  God didn’t give us the spirit of fear so where did it come from? God gave us the spirit of power, love and a sound mind.

1 John 4:8  “He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.”

John 10:10  “The thief cometh not but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy; I am come that they might have life and that they might have it more  abundantly.”  (Jesus speaking)

If you are waking with the same fears you went to sleep with; then you don’t hold a sound mind.  This means your mind is undisciplined.  In order to be fearless, we must hold self discipline.

Proverbs 23:7  Reminds us that the way we think is how we are.  This means if you hold fearful thoughts you are walking around afraid. Something is scaring you but it started in your thoughts. This is a reason people tend to have anxiety attacks or sleepless nights. The thoughts rolling around in their mind is preventing them from living that abundant life. They become disabled by fear. They wake the next morning  feeling exhausted due to lack of sleep; which intensifies the fears from the day prior. Let’s break this down better… Without proper rest, the mind and body can’t function properly. If your mind and body can’t function properly you may find yourself walking in circles or holding brain fog and feeling sensitive to anyone and everything around you. This type of unrest can cause a person to lose any type of logic which then begins affecting every aspect of their life. They struggle getting out of bed, facing the day, going to work, trying to keep their composure, relationships begin dissolving and  pain sets in the body. What began as  a small fear turned into something that is life altering. Most people who fear are fearing something that might happen but most of the things they feared would happen;  never happen at all…  If your mind kept your body up then this is your first indication your mind was left undisciplined.   An undisciplined mind  can have people become the  James 1:8 person… ( Double-minded and unstable in all their ways.)

To allow our thoughts to roam freely gives us the reward of being emotionally unstable. This means our emotions will fluctuate or be all over the place.  Our emotions are fleeing. They shift quickly depending on which thought we are thinking on at the moment… Guess what?   Sometimes, … Our thoughts are not our own…  This is the reason we are told in 2 Corinthians 10:5 to hold our thoughts in captivity for a time.  (this time allows us to discern if that thought aligns with God’s word or goes against it.)  Some of you are thinking, “well my thoughts are quick I can’t just hold every thought captive like you are suggesting. That is impossible.”  ( My friend, I’m not suggesting… I’m sharing a command we are to follow that is found in 2 Corinthians. )  I understand thinking how impossible this all sounds as I too have walked in your shoes;  but it is possible because God is the one who left the instructions to follow… He tells us in 1 Peter 5:7 To cast our cares which means our thoughts, concerns, worries, fears, wants, needs, desires, troubles, or anything that keeps twirling in our minds  keeping us in turmoil…

When we hold onto our thoughts and emotions we unknowingly lean on our own understanding.  Proverbs 3:5 is our reminder to lean on God not our own understanding. See, our understanding only reaches as far as our perception… This means, what we have been exposed too determines our outlook on most everything. (not all of us were exposed to the right things; which means our perception may not be accurate.)   This creates an opening in our minds for the devil to use as a playground…

If you are tired of being tired then stop doing things as you always have. This means, the things you have tried to rid yourself of  such as  fear , anger,  sorrow or whatever you have twirling in your mind  is not working;   because if it was  you would not still be  bound by fear and emotions. So why not try a different method?

Demand self discipline of yourself in one area today and let that area be your mind. Begin with holding every thought  suspect. This means don’t trust any thought you have hold it in captivity before you decide to entertain that thought. If that thought doesn’t align with God’s word then refuse to entertain something that goes against him. If it goes against him then it wasn’t a thought he held for you… If you are a child of God struggling with thoughts of fears or emotions that are out of control; the devil may be using your mind as his playground. Self discipline in the mind reads like this…  “DEVIL,  NO TRESPASSING! “

Breaking Free:

Do you feel weighed down in mind and body? If so, you may be oppressed. Normally when one is oppressed they become depressed…

Oppression is when someone will use authority or power against you but in a cruel manner. The result is seen later as depression, sorrow, sadness, loss of joy, mourning, gloominess, heartsick, moping and literally down in the dumps.

When a person’s depression gets this bad it is a good indication hope is being lost or is already gone. Without hope anxiety quickly sets in… Anxiety is when we become fearful or nervous about what might happen. (not what is happening but what might happen.)

There are different forms of anxiety but let’s focus on one; which is panic. Panic is extreme fear or dread that makes someone unable to act or think normally. They become disabled by fear or dread to the degree their body goes into a panic attack. When the body is triggered by this amount of fear it responds with shaking, confusion, dizziness, pain, nausea and difficulty breathing. Let’s not forget to mention the change in heartbeat also can cause the one under the panic attack to believe they are about to experience a heart attack; which can cause more panic…

Let’s go back for a minute… Someone used authority or power over someone else in a cruel manner, which lead to them feeling weighed down in mind and body. Over time being weighed down in body and mind caused depression. The depression held such gloom that panic set in. Once panic took root, the person believed their life was in danger by what started in the mind but ended up in the entire body.

Everything we go through physically is influenced by something spiritually.  (Ephesians 6:10-12)

Can you smell what you are stepping in?

Do you smell that? I’m asking can you smell what you are about to step in? Sometimes if we are not paying attention,we step right into a pile of upset. The upset probably would not have been an issue had it not fermented to the level of stink it got too.  (Anger, greed, jealousy, and lack of consideration can ferment together and create a smell like no other.)

Instead of getting in there and getting our hands or feet dirty looking for the root of that smell; people walk away hoping the smell dissipates. That smell won’t dissipate until is is taken care of.  There are times we must take the heat and smell in order to clean a mess that was left out to ferment… Once fermentation takes place  we are assured something is spoiled and needs to be thrown out. How do we throw something out that we can’t see? (Upset is something we can’t see until we step into it.)

Keep in mind, for something to ferment; there must be a chemical change.  If anger, greed, jealousy, and lack of consideration ferment; that is a recipe for an explosive temper. People aren’t explosive for no reason, something caused  anger and it normally begins with hurt feelings over a long period of time. For someone to allow all that to ferment is someone who lacks knowledge on how to clean that mess…

What started as a small mess that could have easily been cleaned is now a huge mess; that no one is willing to take responsibility for. (Whoever cleans the mess looks responsible for creating the mess in the first place. Right?)

Who cares who created or is responsible for the stink you stepped in? It does not change the fact that if the mess is not cleaned; someone will continue stepping in it…

If you are stepping in upset, you held a part in creating it which means you hold a part in cleaning it…See, it takes two to cause upset not just one. Two people or more is what it takes to make a mess. Can you argue with yourself? Can you hurt your own feelings?

Whether anyone wants to help you clean or not, you owe it to yourself to quit stepping in something you could easily clean. You can clean by discarding waste you hang onto that keeps disabling you from taking another step forward. Take your anger, jealousy, greed, hurt, and all the other pains you hold to the Lord today. Surrender it all by asking the Lord to take it from you. Repent for allowing yourself to wallow in a mess you allowed but also let ferment over time. Allow yourself a clean slate and whoever you hold those feelings against a clean slate as well… You hanging onto the past and the upset it holds has you stepping into a pile of stink you helped create. Clean the mess through prayer, clean the slate by offering forgiveness, and use caution before allowing your words or actions to spoil the time left you have on this earth.

If you can smell what you are about to step in; maybe consider a different route… This means try a different method than the one you have always used… Pride must be removed in order for a new method to be tried…

Psalms 37:8 Reminds us to refrain from anger

Proverbs 14:17 Reminds us a quick temper causes us to act foolishly

Proverbs 15:1 Reminds us that a soft answer removes wrath but a harsh answer stirs up anger.
